Well what does it mean with a good leader? A good leader is to monitor not to do. It means a good leader don't have to do everything himself but order his group member to help. This statement is totally not well accepted by anyone today. 'A good leader supposed to do major things himself and left minor one for his member'. That's what we hear everyday. I can't say it is wrong but our attitudes is slightly bend towards the negative one. Irresponsibility.
Yesterday lucky i have chance to witness the conversation between the 'great' leaders of Scout Master Council. I don't really want to figure out their names. Here i use alphabets to represent their names. Think and substitute yourself.
A was asking B to let him to join the council. B declined. I can't really hear what B told A earlier but slightly i can understand that B was telling A that he don't want to make a wrong decision. The conversation ended. B was joining for another conversation with C, D, E, F and lastly me. C was going to leave the council as he is not satisfied with G reputation. G is good in planning and maintaining but C thinks it was a little bit too good and G is not accepting anyone idea. He use his own idea, make a decision his own and never had a meeting before. Although there is a meeting, the final decision is totally different with the one that made in the meeting. Suddenly D voice out his opinion. 'We are not boy court-ing G, we were trying hard to co-operate with him for the past 4 activities. Everytime i ask him what form 5 committee can do, he ask us to help. Help what? What to help in a Keahlian course?' B asking us to give him a chance. And start telling his thought on G. 'Without G i guess a lot of the test will not be completed, or even carried out. He is helpful in this case. Even myself can do nothing for the sake of the troop. I bet you too.' He then look at me. Silent for a while. Then E and F start their very first sentence. 'Is that too hard for you to give him a chance?' C:'I did try to convince myself to, but he is not listening to anyone idea. I feel sick, i am going to leave.' E and F again,'Okay, for G's case we will try to communicate with him, now lets talk about A.' C give an example,'You said you want give him a chance, and then fired him whenever he did something wrong right? If your the boss, now you hire a worker which is blacklisted by everyone. You ignored and still hiring. One day he stole your asset and then only you fire him, you still the loser.' B thinking deeply to what C have said. Immediately B start a new topic. About the leadership. He said us, i mean the committee is not doing our duty properly. Just simply do because we have to do. Not for the sake of the troop. I leave.
Bear in mind what Mr B have said. Well he did his job well in the past few years. But until today, the member is no longer the same with the past. They can't even taste the bitterness of life. Not even an hour of scout activity. Suddenly my mind pop up the words Giant said in the meeting last time. I can't remember in Training Camp or Cub Scout Training Camp. 'Although the senior punish us deadly, we are willing to received the punishment.' For them who lived in the past they think this is a normal thing but for us, sounds ridiculous. This is what happen. The skills used in the past is not suitable for the situation today.
Why am i wasting my time on this. I am not going to do anything more than attending the formal activity. I did my job maybe not so well, at least i tried. I am better than anyone else who did not attending the activity and left your committees and members aside.
