Day 5 - Kangar, Perlis, Malaysia
No more breakfast from YR grandma! Haha. After packing YR grandparents bring us to Chan Ah Hai. We ordered a variety of food. Chicken Rice and Char Siu Rice. Wan Tan Mee. Lam Mee. Char Hor Fan.
Every food in this kopitiam is so niceee. The food have their own traditional and original taste, very delicious. We can see the old tiles on the floor and wall, old fans on the ceiling, vintage radio and television and last but not least, aged but warm people.
There is a poster hanging on the wall next to the television. Inspiring. Listening to old song on the radio and tasting Sunway Tea is just nice and relaxing.
YR's grandpa drives with adrenaline so V and I decided to nominate him into The Incredible List.
We said goodbye to YR and his family at Padang Besar Terminal. We took public bus to Perlis.
Yeah Perlis here I come!
The bus is also shaky like the previous one. I feel so happy that i smile all the way from Alor Setar to Kangar =D I am happy from the bottom of my heart. I have 3 big dreams to achieve in my life to obtain happiness. Freedom, Family and Love. At the age of 21, I can taste a sip of freedom at this very moment. I feel so awesome and so proud and happy at the same time.
On the way to Kangar, we can see rubber trees and oil palms, unlike Kedah, with paddy fields and fruit trees. We reach Kangar Terminal after a while and we are being directed to another bus stop at The Store for Maraliner for Gua Kelam. We are lost and here we met the first friendly girl, that showed us the route. Even though that is a wrong direction but still TQVM! We then walk a while and second friendly girl show us the landmark. Her friends and her told us The Store is very far away. V and I smiled. The Store is in our sight and not more than a kilometre away. We kept our luggage at The Store at RM2 per person. Vincent grabbed a few Delicia and I take out a few necessities out from our bag before we headed to bus stop.
On the bus, we talked to the conductor and asked for the time they will pick us up. Before we get down from the bus, third friendly girl told us not to play water at Gua Kelam because there are people infected by plague. So friendly.
Vincent and I paid RM1 each to reception and we moved on to the cave. Soooo amazing!
We walk on a hanging bridge 10 feet above the stream in the cave for around 400m. Due to Bernoulli Principle, the tunnel experience pressure change from one end to another. Therefore it is very cold and windy inside the cave.
I don't know what is the technical name for stuffs in the cave so let's call them big rocks and small rocks. We can see big rocks near and far. Some touchable and some even have water dripping from the ceiling. There are colourful spotlights shine on the big rocks. Violet, orange, yellow, green and red.
Vincent said there are minerals in water so I taste them with my tongue. Tasteless and odourless but the water is cold. The environment and temperature makes me feel like dinosaur is coming out >.<
We come out at the other end of the cave. There is a small garden named Secret Garden with big models of insects.
Vincent and I pass by and saw four Thai girls playing with their puppy. He asked me a few questions in Chinese manatau they response to us. Vincent tio-cheh-kia. We chat with the girls and took photo of them together with the white, fluffy and cute puppy in the sling bag. Sooo cute! Sooo adorable!
We then climb the stairs and found a secret tunnel that have no light inside.
As adventurous backpackers, Vincent and I decided to walk a few steps into the tunnel, even though the tunnel is strictly no access without a tour guide. Creepy.
On the way back to the cave entrance, again we take the hanging bridge again. We took video and sing songs in the cave. We saw baby bat sleeping upside down. We also saw a few western tourists.
Both my adrenaline and energy level down. We found a small hut and I take a nap with a scarf under my head.
We then walked to the bus stop after rest. Guess what, we found durian in a small convenient store. Aunty introduced us the durian, species named 101. Friendly aunty, which is considered the fourth friendly people we met for the day, open up the durian. V told me that 101 have the milky taste. I agree. He is also good at open up the durian. He have enough knowledge to be a durian expert. Good durian at good price. We washed our hands at the back of the store and said goodbye to the store owners, the aunty and her husband.
Maraliner bus is here. We chit chat with the same conductor again. They used tablet for ticketing >,<
After a few stops something crazy happened. A 11 years old indian boy got up on to the bus. He told us that his dad torture him and hit him with glass bottles. And also cut his hair which he then pointed our hair and compare his and ours. "Jangan gelak, i sakit hati oh," I can feel the pain but i can never understand it. He wanted to leave his old man behind and go to Penang to meet his friend or his married sister I am not sure because of his slang speaking. He told us he have 3 realistic goals to achieve. He want a car, a house and a good marriage. Very rare and almost impossible to hear this anymore even from our friends around. People are being too comfortable to dream and live life like how people should live. Credits to this young man, Desavan's dream. I observed him very carefully. He is very confident chatting with the bus driver and conductor even though his content is not well structured and he bragged a lot. He said he is strong enough to carry the bus and run. So the bus driver stop the bus and ask him to do so. Vincent and I can't stop laughing. Hahaha. But he somehow inspired me. What would we do if we are in his shoes? Do we have enough courage to take a risk to another states? At the age of 11? We reached our destination. I take a great look at his back, watching this amazing black young man left my sight. One day if this man able to keep himself alive, I want to see how far he had gone and how great he had become. God bless you, kid. BTW Desavan, you are in The Incredible List too!
We took our backpacks and had dinner somewhere near the Kangar Terminal. I consider Perlis is a place with a lot of human touch. I called it Ren Qing Wei in Chinese. People are friendly everywhere. Even though the food and drinks are not that awesome if i were to compare Perlis with Kedah.
I really do grow in one day! I <3 Perlis very much.
*Next Chapter: Kelantan!
