Day 6 - Kelantan, Malaysia

We took bus 9pm and reached at 5.30am. The bus is like a fridge. It was so freezing cold, even with my sleeping bag. Got down from the bus, it was windy. Since when Kota Bharu became so cold. We found McDonald's so we headed there to get clean up. I even spent a few minutes to get myself warm using the hand dryer. Yee Pin, my old best friend since I was a kid, come meet us at Kota Bharu Terminal with his new, white, shiny, 7 months old Honda Civic @.@ sweat! This is his car, owned at the age of 21, my age! We catch up a lil bit in his car, way back to Pasir Puteh, my hometown, the place I grow up. We were looking for places to eat but in this fasting month, every cafe shut down and even McDonald's, claimed themselves to provide 24/7 service also closed for the month at this hour. We cannot find any food so we continue head back to my hometown. This can only happen in Kelantan.

Yee Pin's house. We get our backpack settled and we went out for breakfast at Bukit Yong around 7am. Wan Tan Mee again =,= Pasir Puteh don't have anything to eat because of this fasting month. This Wan Tan Mee from Thai. Tasted normal. Yee Pin paid for the breakfast. We then got back to home and get some sleep while poor Yee Pin have to continue take care of his bicycle shop business. Big big business with the amount of *censored* sales per annum.

At noon we went to the capital, Kota Bharu. Pasir Puteh is almost 40km south from the capital. On the road I noticed Kelantan has been developed much more than i expected. The kampung is still the kampung, but with better roads and more shops. The trees are not that dense like in Kedah nor in Perlis.

At the same time, Yee Pin showed me some features of Honda Civic like wireless key system, anti-theft system, eco driving mode, leg-free driving system. Cool.

Forgot to mention about fried rice we taken at Yee Pin house by his mum. Fried rice + pineapple curry. Curry is delicious!

We went to USM Health Campus and USM Hospital, the place I was born 21 years ago. The hospital had been painted into pink. The last time I have seen them was still blue.

We take a quick explore in the campus and Vincent took some photos to show to our friends in Engineering and Main Campus. The size of the campus is almost the same as Main Campus, just that the land here is flat, with smaller gradient.

It was almost tea time, Vincent suggest we get something 'cold' (in Chinese it means food that can lower our body temperature) to drink. We found a herbal tea stall so Vincent and I go get Bitter Tea. RM3. Not really expensive if we were to compare with Penang's pricing but Yee Pin said it could be cheaper here in Kelantan. Oops, overpriced tea.

We then headed to a few restaurants and cafes that Yee Pin wanted to bring us for lunch, even though lunch hour was long passed. Chicken rice and chicken chop are both unavailable, so we drive to Kebun Sultan, where chinese food is all along the street like Raja Uda in Butterworth.

I looked for Khao Jam, a Thai's food, tasted like Nasi Kerabu. The only difference between Khao Jam and Nasi Kerabu is the colour of the rice. Khao Jam is green and Nasi Kerabu is blue.

Vincent and I get a pack for ourselves and we ate happily behind the ais kacang stall. Khao Jam is cheap. RM 2.50 each. Good food, very delicious. Yee Pin get 100g for dried pork (bak kua) for RM 8. WTF. Good to eat but the price GG.

We then went to Kota Bharu Mall, in short KB Mall. KB Mall is very funny, we can see shop shutting down at 7pm, which is the Buka Puasa hour. This can never happen in Penang's Mall. LOL even SenQ also shut down temporarily.

We then left back to Yee Pin's house. He told me it is hard to get food in Kelantan at fasting month. Islamic state, proven! So one tip if you want to explore Kelantan, avoid fasting season. Yee Pin's family took their dinner at 11pm. Very abnormal phenomena but they practiced this everyday. How awkward.

Yee Pin's family is really friendly and his sisters are both grown up and are adorable. But this does not turn me into a pedophile though!
